Names

The "Disney Insider" is a periodic on-line newsletter that I get through e-mail. (Yes, I love Disney that much!). Anyways, today's issue has the following trivia question...

Question: What are the names of Ariel's sisters?
Answer: Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella, and Alana.

Did you have to sing along to the song to get all the names? I did!
-or-Are you thinking to yourself, "Who's Ariel?"

Melisms...
1. I know several families who (similar to the the Little Mermaid's daughters of Triton) name all of their children names that begin with the same letter. Kinda neat...everybody has the same initials.

2. It's interesting to learn the origins of names. Did you read my blurb in the profile? To learn more about your name, check out this neat website: http://www.babynamer.com/ It's funny to read all the potential nicknames you can get!

3. When you go on a vacation, there's always the "tourist traps" filled with trinkets, keychains, cups, and more with your name labeled somewhere on it. I always feel sorry for kids who have unconventional spellings or unusual names and are never able to get a souvenir. Here's a list of some interesting names I've encountered in the past few years...Darby, Kellin, Keegan, Regan, Juno, Raven, and Melessa.

3. The longer you teach, the more names are associated with particular former students. I wonder if the same is true for movie stars--or if these people just want to make the news. It seems that the current craze is for Hollywood to give their children odd names. Check these out...
Celebrity Baby Name (Celebrity Parents)
Apple (Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin)
Zowie (Angie and David Bowie)...does that mean it's Zowie Bowie?
Chester (Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks)
Maddox (Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton)
Willow (Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith)
Zola (Eddie Murphy)
Rumer, Scout and Tallulah Belle (Bruce Willis and Demi Moore)
Hazel Patricia and Phinnaeus Walter (Julia Robert's twins)

I ate dolphin?!?!!?!!!

Walking down the food buffet, I saw the tiny label "Mahi-Mahi."

Upon seeing this, I thought to myself, humm....I wonder what that tastes like.
Could it be fish? Chicken? something else? Someone nearby commented that she once heard that Mahi-Mahi was dolphin. I said, "Yeah right. They were pulling your leg," and added a piece to my plate.

Well, it is a fish and more specifically a dolphin fish!
I ATE DOLPHIN!!!

Further research has helped me learn more about this new food. Mahi-Mahi is also called dolphin or dolphin fish. The name means "strong-strong" in Hawaiian. I've learned that this fish is NOT the same as the cute mammal dolphin that swims in the ocean. Resturant menus have adopted the name Mahi-Mahi so people don't confuse these fish with dolphins---even though they have the same name!

Ever hear of this? Me either. So interesting! If you know any more about Mahi-Mahi, please post a comment!

07.07.07

It's a magical date! The math geek in me is coming out...I love numbers...

Try this puzzle:

Lucky 7
pick any 2 digit number
add 2
add your original 2 digit number
add 12
divide by 2
subtract your original 2 digit number
*ABERA*CADABRA*......your answer is 7.

It works every time...go head, give it a try, I know you want to!

The number SEVEN is found everywhere...

-calendar (7 days in a week)
-games (ever play Make 7--it's like Connect Four, but with numbers)
-travel (7 wonders of the world)
-Bible (7 has a symbolic meaning of divine (3) and natural (4) completeness/perfection [3+4=7])
-Books (Countdown until the the 7th Harry Potter book comes out!)

-Can YOU think of more to add to this list? Post a comment!
